Detour!

Today we went to Sun City West to meet my mom and Mr. M for lunch. It was fun and we had chinese. MmM!

On our way home, coming down the 303, i saw the sign for the White Tank Mountain Park that I see every time I go that way. Today, i thought, LET'S GO! We always talk about going and we never do so off we went.

We didn't stay a whole long time but did get out and walk one of the trails. We got in some Science, History and PE all in one outing. Laren learned about the first people to live in the area, about the native plants to the area as well as animals that live here. Of course, that was her favorite part. We came home and looked up some of the things to learn more.

One of the things we saw were the Petroglyphs. We learned the difference between hyroglyphics and petroglyphics. We are on our way to bed now, but will post some pix tomorrow.

The homeschooling has been going along great. We are venturing into something new called UNschooling, which is a lot like we did today. More on that later. Goodnight!

Back to school............HOMEschool that is....

Well, we did it. After much thought and discussion, we decided to pull Laren out of the charter school she was attending. Too many things were going on there both on the surface and in the background for us to accept to sum it up. SO....we resume homeschooling.

We have been at it for about a month now and are having a blast! We purchased a curriculum but are also incorporating in a lot of other things that schools either don't do anymore, or don't offer until higher grades in some cases.

We are learning the REAL history of our country, and all the regular 'subjects' as she would be doing in school but from a Godly perspective, not a world perspective. Some of the references we are utilizing are actually very old, from a time when things such as virtue and manners were still actually taught in schools. Public schools!

We are also doing Music, Art and many other fun things such as Home Economics, Creative Writing, Bible and we are getting ready to start up some "clubs" for weekends and friend time.

The only thing she really misses about going to school is seeing her peers. So, we are going to do our best to keep in touch with them by having get togethers, parties, clubs and outings.

Some of the clubs we have ideas for include a Photography Club, Book Club, Cooking/Baking Club, and Outdoor Education Club!

phew! We are staying very busy and are learing alot already. We have several field trips planned for the coming year and are very excited.

We decided to put up this blog to take you along on our Homeschool Adventure! We will post special projects, ideas and our progress on here so stay tuned! Be sure to "follow" us!
